The style of this game is a third/first
person action shooter and the genre of the game is an action/open world genre.
It shows the stylistic conventions of the genre by having a huge open world
layout and the traditional grand theft auto campaign.
In comparison with other games with the same
genre, GTA V became one of the best-selling games ever created being 4th
in best-selling games of all time. It was released in 2013 but later in April
2015 re-released for next generation consoles and PC.
The story being told throughout the game is that you play as the main gta characters, Michael and Trevor as well as new character Franklin. The story goes that after an unsuccessful bank robbery, the due split up but eventually 25 years later find one another again. The story informs the gameplay by being continually filled with missions, including bank robberies, gameplay decisions and a lot more. The use of multiple characters makes the story dynamic for every person, which mean people may feel different about different character. The story connects to the target audience by having the main characters return with all the previous characteristics transferred that people remember from the older games.
The game was produced by Rockstar North on September 17rd 2013. Production elements like the ability to transfer characters at any time aswell as being able to switch between first and third person camera types enhance the gameplay dramatically. Elements like physics and mechanics work near enough perfect, better than any other game. The physics engine works great with all vehicles, being land, air and sea.
Characters are relevant to the target audience by providing a multiple character option aswell as story aspect. The characters’ appeal to the target audience by being characters that everyone knows. The characterisations match the action genre by providing characters like trevor who is mentally unstable and willing to kill everything in sight. The characters differ but on average are overly strong, being able to survive falls from skyscrapers etc.
Challenge is
present during GTA V’s campaign as choices impact others further in the game.
This makes the game’s strategy key to having a successful campaign or heist.
Also elite challenges allow players to complete heists in set times to earn
more money or RP (level EXP).
The level design
engages the player with its huge, highly detailed open world map with lots of
unique areas to visit.
These elements
are key to the games success, as well as the characters persona (Michael,
Franklin and Trevor).
The gameplay
engages with the narrative by using the new character swap feature to influence
gameplay.
The keeps the players attention as at any time
characters will follow their own scripts so whenever a player transfers to
another character, the will be doing something completely different to when
they last met them.
The target
audience for the game GTA V is adults ~18. This is due to the explicit content
within the game such as swearing, nudity and strong violence. The game also
indicated towards this audience by having an 18 rating by PEGI.
The game appeals
to the target audience by offering content that someone over 18 might like to
see, such as violence or sex etc.
In comparison to other games with a similar
target audience, the game is very similar to others like just cause 2/3 and
other games that were developed by rockstar like GTA V or Max Payne.
The game is
available on, PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4.
Overall the game
is more suited for the console platform by offering a controller to
drive/fly/shoot etc.
